Direction of Communication

There are three distinct directions in which communication flows within an entity:

  • Downward Communication: This originates from the higher level to the lower level, specifically moving from a manager to an employee.
  • Upward Communication: This originates from the employee, giving messages to the manager or supervisor who are at levels above him.
  • Lateral Communication: This involves discussion among employees who are at the same length.
