New cells arise from pre-existing cells
The body constantly makes new cells for growth and repair
Cell division is not the same in ALL cells.
Prokaryotes (no nucleus)- like bacteria
Eukaryotes (nucleus)- like protists, plants, fungi, and animals
Each new cell must get a complimentary copy of the cell’s DNA so that each cell has a complete set of DNA that are identical
Copying DNA is known as replication
The original cell that divides is called the parent cell, while the 2, new identical cells are called daughter cells.
