Competence- A patient's ability to understand what is happening and to make decisions. 

Implied Consent- The permission for medical treatment that a competent person would give if they could. 

Expressed Consent- A competent adult's permission to treat them.  

Negligence- A care provider did not do what was expected or did something carelessly.

Confidentiality- Protecting the private information an individual has given with the expectation that the information will not be given to others. 

Good Samaritan Law- Designed to protect certain care providers acting in good faith.
