AP US History(APUSH) Bill of Rights-1788

STORY TIME:

-With rights in the hands of the strong central government, proposed by Federalists, the common people began to question why exactly they were not being represented in the government’s decisions as people of the United States.

Rights In The Hands of The People?

These were known as the inalienable rights. Inalienable rights were created by John Locke during the era of Enlightenment. Rights included the right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Who Were the Federalists?

Alexander Hamilton was a strong leader of the Federalists and argued for the rights of the government to have power over the people.

Who Were the Anti-Federalists?

Anti-federalists(farmers in the South) desired a strong amount of power in the hands of the people. They would come to agree to the Constitution's ratification only because of the Bill of Rights that would continually respect the common people under a set of 10 amendments that would later grow to different additions.

CONNECTION:

Under the Articles of Confederation, the limitations of the government not only limited their ability to fund a military, but to control the people in a lawful order.
