Personal

1. Never taste or touch chemicals
2. When heating a test tube point it away

In the lab

8. The last thing you do in lab is wash your hands

9. Follow all directions

10. Clean up all spills

12. Tum off the gas jet when you are done

13. Put broken glass in its container

14. Always clean up your lab station when you are done

15. Look for cracked or damaged glassware before beginning your experiment

16. Always add acid to water, not water to acid

Extra Safety Rules

1. Be prepared to work when you arrive at the laboratory. Familiarize yourself with the lab procedures before beginning the lab.

2. Carefully follow all oral and written instructions. Preform only those activities assigned by your teacher. Never do anything in the laboratory that is not called for in the lab procedure or by your teacher.
3. Notify your teacher if you have any medical problems that might be affected by any lab work, such as allergies or asthma.
4. Never work in the laboratory without supervision.
5. Never eat or drink in the laboratory
6. Never smoke in the space
7. Keep work areas clean at all times
8. Unnecessary items should be brought to the storage room
9. Wear appropriate clothing for working in the lab, Removes all loose garments and roll up long sleeves. Also remove loose accessories that can get in the way of the experiment.
   10. Avoid touching chemicals with your hands If chemicals do come in contact with your hands, wash the immediately/.
   11. Wear latex gloves when handling concentrated acids and bases.
   12. When mixing an acid and water, always add the acid to the water
   13. Carry glass tubing, especially long pieces, in a vertical position to prevent breakage and stabbing anyone.
   14. Always wear heavy gloves when inserting a piece of glassware such as tubing or a thermometer, into a stopper. Before inserting lubricate glass with water/glycerin.
   15. Use twisting motion with removing/inserting glassware --Never apply force --- Becomes stuck? Ask teacher
   16. No contact lens in lab / use glasses if can
   17. Always follow teacher directions
   18. Keep combustible materials away from open flames.
   19. Use wafting motion to smell something -- Never smell directly
   20. Always use insulating pad for hot objects
   21. Never touch hot glass -- Wait till it cools down
   22. Be Careful with gas burners
   23. Always turn off all materials when not in use
   24. Use a fume hood when needed
   25. Clean workspace always at the end of class
   26. Know where all emergency items are
   27. Chemical spill? Tell teacher.
   28. Injury? Tell teacher
   29. Unused chemical? Dispose of properly.
   30. Hold container away from the body when transferring
   31. Never look into a container up close when being heated
   32. Never hear a closed container
