CHAPTER 8:

  • St. Paul Exhorts the faithful regarding stealing. Stealing is a grave sin among social evils.

  • ‘You shall not steal is related to social justice’

  • The teaching of what St. Paul says: nor thieves nor greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God.

  • Wealth is god’s gift - We read this in the book of Genesis

  • The basic principle of justice is to give what one owes to another

  • ‘You shall not steal’ teaches us that we have the responsibility to protect others’ rights

Chapter 9:

  • The basis of human life is mutual trust

  • Calumny definition: “The purpose of calumny is to cause quarrels or enmity between two people”

  • Denigration: Is spreading things about a person who has a secret nature or who is against the truth

Chapter 10:

  • The people in the Old Testament regard marriage as an ideal state of life

  • In his public life, Jesus performed his first miracle at the wedding feast at Cana.

  • Matrimony is the sacrament of that covenant

  • The backbone of the church and society are good families

Chapter 11:

  • Parable of Naboth and King Ahab: The king wanted to make Naboth’s garden his own but Naboth was not ready to sell it to the king. When the queen heard about Naboth not wanting to sell his land, she accused him of blasphemy. Naboth was stoned to death. The king now owned Naboth’s land but Naboth cried out to God. God sent his prophet Elijah to the king. “You have murdered Naboth and taken over his possession. “Thus says the LORD: In the place where the dogs licked up the blood of Naboth, the dogs shall lick up your blood too.” That was the punishment King Ahab received for his greed.

  • Greed is an excessive desire to amass wealth

  • Covetousness or greed is the desire to own things, namely money, power, or positions beyond one’s needs and abilities

  • DIVINE VIRTUES ARE INCLUDED IN THIS CHAPTER! (PAGE 54)

  • Thrift: The mode of action of a person who spends only the money necessary for their life and gives the rest of their wealth for the welfare of others.

Chapter 12:

  • The commandment of love is the sum and substance of what he taught during his public life

  • The substance or core of the commandments is love

  • The hallmark of Christian life is fraternal charity

  • Jesus taught the same through the parable of the good Samaritan

  • Acts of charity have a significant place in the life of every Christian

  • The climax of love is love for an enemy

  • Jesus summed up all the commandments with the commandment of love

Chapter 13:

  • There are 5 precepts of the church

Chapter 14:

  • Conscience is the powerful interior voice that inspires a person to goodness and persuades him/her to act accordingly. The conscience is the voice of God.

  • Our conscience tells us to give up evil and to accept goodness.

  • The faith itself is the basis for their conscience

  • The moral voice formed according to the Christian faith is the Christian conscience

  • The first thing in forming a good conscience is to discern good and evil.

  • In the New testament, St. Paul teaches us in detail about conscience

  • The gospel of Mathew explains the beauties!

  • The most important part of the Sermon on the Mount is the evangelical counsel

  • A disciple of Christ lives and trusts in the providence of God. Jesus taught about the necessity of trusting in divine providence.

  • How to become stronger: The word of God should give strength and firmness in our lives because Jesus taught that even if heaven and earth pass away, his words would not.
