POST WAR
Economic
North is moving towards free labor, which is working wages, like having jobs. But South is still focused on slavery. The sole of the rpublic like to build a good country they valued equality and how everyone can be a farmer/whatever. Inflation
Colonists were in debt from war, shopkeepers raised prices,s which is inflatation. So general public did not like high prices but government did not want to involve themsleves. Merchants were like leave me alone, can i just sell at my own price.
Everyone wants to be a small business owner.
White males, artisans, and farmers gained access to land and trade.
Women and sllaves did not benefit from this.
Slavery
Still slavery, especially in the south, however, 5k slaves did get granted freedom after the war.r Slaves used revolution narratives to fight for liberty and rights. They were hypocritical founding fathers. Northern colonies had free soil but still, they were racist.
South
Rise in plantation owning, abolitionists grew.
Religious
Thomas Jefferson’s Bill-1786
Eliminates voting requirements
Office holdings and government funds towards churches
Churches are also forced to hold conversions
emphasizing the separation of state and church. Diests believes in God; however, they believe in science like gravity. For example, catholics and Protestants were only based off religion. Since we are free, they wanted to be more loose with hatred, nd not tax individuals. They also started to also be more open with other religions, such as catholic. You could be fined. Became friends with France, Quebec or Canada, the majority were catholics, so the war showed that they weren’t evil. Widespread religious toleration.
Virginia wanted to continue to tax the church. While James Madison opposed this, they wanted America to be a free nation and to come for refuge. Wanted to separate religion and politics.

Democracy of Freedom
Equality and freedom main driving force of the nation. Every state made a new constitution after gaining independence, they all had separate ones. The two houses had authority. Power shifted from nnot only being for the wealthy. Democratic states shifted towards forming an entitlement rather than a privilege for example like if you were a citizen then you can vote rather than being a landowner.
Limits of Liberty
What happened to people who sided with the british.
Not everyone got liberty
2o-25 percent stayed loyal to britain, mainly the south, pennsyslavia and new york.
Mainly, wealthy people they were dependent on britain, they weren’t farmers so they were nothing wiht the connection with britain.
The enslaved were loyalists because they wanted freedom
After the war, 60k were banished. People who stayed faced hostility, their land was cofnsicated.
Treaty of Paris 1783 ended loyalist persecution, this was poorly enforced. No one actually followed it.
The decision between South and north, north was educated and not dependent on slavery. We will see as the civil war, loyalists were mainly from the southern states, this gives the bluepiny. Native americans lost liberty.
None of the men were enlisted; they had never touched a gun. France had given training and weapons, etc… Lafayette French. Saratoga was their first major battle win!!! But before Saratoga, it was the Declaration of Independence
