Unit 3

Nutrition

• BMI (know numbers and appropriate nurse interventions).

• Factors that affect nutrition (ex: micromineral deficiency, dysphagia, etc.)

• Deficiencies and foods to correct them (Iron deficiency, protein deficiency, calcium)

• Discuss how/what labs tell us about malnutrition (know lab test names)

• How to use Myplate.

• Dysphagia? nursing interventions? Risks?

• How to calculate I/O’s, fluid restrictions

• Enteral nutrition-what is it? What are examples? Which are temporary vs. permanent?

• Enteral feedings nursing interventions (what must nurses assess prior)

• How to adjust rate of bolus enteral feedings

• What is residual and how is it assessed?

• What are risks of enteral feedings?

Fluid and Electrolytes (Terminology and symptoms of imbalances(hyper/hypo) and interventions for all below)
