Course Overview and Administrative Guidelines

  • Class Enrollment and Attendance: Attendance statistics fluctuate; of the 2828 students registered on the official list, only 1919 were present for the initial meeting. Security facilitates entry when students are locked out of the building. Maintaining a class size of approximately 2020 is considered optimal for laboratory environments, whereas 2828 students can prove difficult to manage.

  • Course Delivery Format: Laboratory sessions are conducted face-to-face. This is done primarily to ensure transferability and syllabus compliance, as many institutions frown upon entirely online laboratory sessions, even in the post-COVID era. If a student attempts to transfer to another institution, face-to-face laboratory credits are more likely to be accepted.

  • Learning Materials and Costs:

    • Moodle: All course content and materials are hosted on this platform.
    • Connect: This digital tool is required and carries a cost of approximately $190. While expensive, it includes required activities and an ebook.
    • Lab Books: There is no hard-copy lab book required, which offsets some of the costs associated with the expensive lecture material and Connect access. Previously, students might pay $100 for a lecture book and another $100 for a lab book.
  • Grading Standards:

    • The official final grade is recorded as a letter grade (A,B,CA, B, C).
    • A standard grading scale is employed, where a score of 90%90\% or above constitutes an AA.
