NCLEX CORNER MANAGEMENT OF CARE

  • Maintain client confidentiality and privacy
    • Treat all personal information regarding clients with the utmost confidentiality to protect their privacy rights.
  • Provide and receive hand-off of care (report) on assigned clients
    • Effectively communicate essential information about patient care among healthcare providers.

PIAGET'S COGNITIVE THEORY

  • Definition of cognitive
    • Cognition refers to the mental processes involved in gaining knowledge and understanding through thought, experience, and the senses.

WHAT ARE PIAGET'S STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT

  1. SENSORIMOTOR STAGE
    • Developmental stage from birth to approximately 2 years where infants learn about the world through sensory experiences and motor activities.
  2. PREOPERATIONAL STAGE
    • Stage occurring from ages 2 to 7 where children begin to engage in symbolic play and learn to manipulate symbols, but do not yet understand concrete logic.
  3. CONCRETE OPERATIONAL STAGE
    • Developmental stage from ages 7 to 11 where children start to think logically about concrete events and grasp the concept of conservation.
  4. FORMAL OPERATIONAL STAGE
    • Final stage from age 12 and onwards where individuals begin to think abstractly, logically, and systematically.

GROUP DISCUSSION: USING MANAGEMENT OF CARE

  • Activity: Break students into 4 small groups.
    • Assign each group one of Piaget’s stages: sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational.
    • Purpose: To explore each stage in detail and understand the implications for teaching and client care in nursing practices.

MANAGEMENT OF CARE

  • Practice in a manner consistent with the nurses’ code of ethics
    • Uphold ethical standards in all interactions and care provided to clients.
  • Recognize and report ethical dilemmas
    • Promptly identify situations that may present ethical challenges, ensuring proper reporting and management of these dilemmas.

HEALTH PROMOTION

  • Educate clients about prevention and treatment of high-risk health behaviors
    • Tailor education to specific high-risk behaviors relevant to individual clients based on their backgrounds and lifestyle choices.
  • Assess and educate clients about health risks based on family, population, and community
    • Determine the client's health risks by evaluating familial history, community health data, and individual health behaviors.
