Biology Mira Davis
Nucleus - The function of the nucleus is it contains genetic info and gives that info by producing nutrients. Control center of the cell.
Cell Membrane - Controls what enters and leaves the cell.
cytoplasm -jelly like material where most of the cell work takes place. it protects and supports organelles inside of the cell
mitochondrion - releases energy from food
endoplasmic reticulum - Transportation system that moves materials through the cell..
Golgi apparatus - To store and package proteins into membrane bound vessels
Lysosomes - breaks down nutrients into smaller parts
Chloroplast - traps sunlight for energy
Cell wall - Protects and supports the cell
Vacuole - stores foods and other materials for the cell and maintains pressure
What is the most basic unit of structure and function in all living things? - The cell.
2. **What is an organism?** -Any individual form of life that uses energy to carry its day to day activities
3. **What do all organisms need in order to live?** - Food, energy, water, and a living space
4. **What is a multicellular organism?** - A multicellular organism is made up of multiple cells that work together, often with specialized functions. - Characteristics include cells are specialized and have more than one level of organization (cells, tissues, organs). - Examples: Humans ,cats
5. **What is a unicellular organism?** - A unicellular has one level of organization and all functions needed for life one cell. - Examples: Bacteria
6. **What is a eukaryotic cell?** - A cell in which the genetic material is enclosed within a nucleus. Contains membrane bound organelles that do a specific job in the cell. Found mostly in multicellular organisms.. - Example: Dog cells liver cells.
7. **What is a prokaryotic cell?** - A cells that lacks a nucleus and other organelles with DNA found in cytoplasm, single celled organism. - Example: Bacterial cells.
8. **What is an organelle?** - An organelle is a specialized structure within a cell that performs specific functions.
9. **What type of organism, unicellular or multicellular, is made up of specialized cells?** - Multicellular organisms are made up of specialized cells that work together to perform complex functions.
10. **List the organelle(s) only found in a plant cell but not in an animal cell.** - Chloroplasts - Cell wall.and vacuole.
11. **Which organelle captures the energy from sunlight and uses it to make sugar or food? In which cell type is this cell part found?** - The chloroplast captures energy from sunlight and is found in plant cells.
