P1

  • Units and Basic quantities
    • there are 3 basic quantities to measure in in physics
      • length
      • mass
      • time
  • Length
    • length is measured in metres (m)
      • 1 decimeter (dm) = 10^-1m
      • 1 centimeter (cm) = 10^-2m
      • 1 millimeter (mm) = 10^-3m
    • a multiple for larger distance is:
      • 1km = 10^3m (5/8 mile approximately)
  • Area
    • area = length x breadth
    • area is always squared
  • Volume
    • it is measured in cubic meter (m^3)
    • volume = length x breadth x height
    • 1 liter = 1000cm^3 = 1dm^3
    • one millilitre (1ml) = 1cm^3
  • Time

the unit of time is the second (s)
