- Contribution from a lot people is needed to initiate and reach substantial scale

- Worldwide community of volunteering programmers
- Give away codes that can make up a single project
- Example:

Participatory Culture:
- Full participation in contemporary culture assumes not just consuming messages, but also creating and sharing them
- Not restricted to professional or tech geeks
- Culture populated by people who believe they have some degree of power
What is it powerful:
- Participation is a kind of power that only works if your share it with others
- People want to share:
- In social nature to connection with others
- We get something back in the relationship
