Anatomical Terminology.

Neuronal Doctrine.
The concept that the nervous system is made up of discrete, individual cells which are mutually dependent upon one another.
Reticular Theory.
An outdated theory, once popular, claimed that the entire nervous system forms a single continuous network.
Brodmann Areas of the Cortex.
Regions of the cortex are numbered 1-52.
Boundaries determined by histological architecture and each area has a particular set of inputs and outputs.
Has a distinct function. Eg:
Brodmann Areas 17 - Primary Visual Cortex
Brodmann Area 4 -Primary Motor Cortex
Neuron Types and Function.
Neurons:
Basic cellular units of the CNS.
Receive and integrate incoming information from sensory receptors/ other neurons.
Neurons chemically transmit information to other neurons or effector organs.
Each neuron is a separate entity with a limiting cell membrane.
