Honors Biology Chapter 10: The Diversity of Plants

Land Plant Characteristics: Mr. Anderson’s Video on Land Plants

Eukaryotes- Have a nucleus and organelles.

-Have common ancestors. Tree of Life Web Project Four groups: Evolution of Plants [Plants started in the ocean, (seaweed)]

Bryophytes: short, need enough rain water, green.

Ferns: vascular plants, move material from roots to shoots. did not need to be low to the ground.

Gymnosperms: seeds start the new plant (naked seed)

Angiosperms- Evolution of the flower. Gave the ability to reproduce. (insects polinating these flowers. Every plant on the planet mostly.

Autotrophs- Self feeders.

Cell Wall- Cellulose, durable, can protect their spores

Terrestrial- live on land.

Alternation of generations- reproduction structure.

Gametophyte- Haploid. Meiosis creates spores, variability, reduced chromosome number to haploid (n), then goes to next…

    Sporophyte- Diploid.

Photosynthesis- taking energy from the sun and converting it to energy.

Embryophytes- protected embryos.

Human Tissue consist of:

Epidermis Tissue

Connective Tissue

Muscle Tissue

Nervous Tissue

Plant Tissue consists of:

Roots stores the glucose from photosynthesis
