Soliloquy- a character expresses their thoughts aloud

Paradox- a person, situation, or action having contradictory qualities or phases

Personification- giving a human quality or characteristic to something not human

Ambiguity- a word or expression that can be understood in two or more possible ways 

Tone- the author’s attitude

Metaphor- comparing two things without using the words “like” or “as”

Simile- comparing two things using “like” or “as”

Assonance- where words in a sentence or phrase repeat the same vowel sound

Alliteration- the repetition of the same letter or sound in a series of words that are close together

Onomatopoeia- The naming of a thing or action by imitation of natural sounds
