Characteristics of an effective law

Key Knowledge: characteristics of an effective law, such as reflecting society’s values; is enforceable; is known; is clear and understood; and is stable.

Characteristics:

Reflects Society’s Values: laws that align with and uphold what the majority of society accepts and believes in. (can keep changing)

Enforceable: laws that are monitorable to determine whether people abide by them and allow consequences for those who do not.

Known: laws that people are aware of and any changes to them, with adequate time provided to become familiar with new laws or changes.

Stable: laws that remain relatively consistent and constant with few or no regular changes occurring.

Clear & Understood: laws that individuals can comprehend and can abide by.
