Normans

-people from normandy france

-leader was william of normandy

-1066 edward the confessor died and harold godwinson got the throne

-william of normandy wanted to be king so he invaded in 1066 and defeated the english at the battle of hastings

-edward the confessor promised the throne to william so he thought it was stolen by harold and wanted to win it back

-william got the blessing from the god so thought invadeing england would be succesfull

-english hated normans and rebellions happened at the start of william reign

-english nobels in the north rebelled so william began the harrying of the north where he killed burned down farms and houses

-east also rebelled by hereward the wake but got crushed

-successful ruling elite in britan holding wealth and power

-normans introduced the feudal system

-introduced the domesday book ( was a record of all land and property ) allowed william to tax people
