Founding and Early Years
The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD) was established on February 5, 1975, in Las Piñas City by Dr. Antonio Laperal Tamayo, Dr. Daisy Moran Tamayo, and Ernesto Palanca Crisostomo. Originally named Perpetual Help College of Rizal, it quickly expanded with its first four-floor nursing school (now a hospital) built in just four months, attracting 700 nursing students, including referrals from its Manila counterpart.
Leadership and Academic Excellence
- Dr. Daisy Tamayo (co-founder and Second President) holds a Master’s in Nursing (NYU) and a Ph.D. in Organization Development.
- Dr. Antonio Tamayo specialized in Hospital Administration (George Washington University) and Organizational Development.
- Their sons, Anthony Jose Tamayo (CPA, MBA from Northwestern, MA from Harvard) and Richard Antonio Tamayo (UP cum laude), later assumed leadership roles, with Anthony becoming president in 2010.
Expansion and Milestones
- 1996: Calamba Campus opened with 360 students, offering programs in Arts, Commerce, HRM, and Computer Science.
- 1997: Granted university status, renaming it University of Perpetual Help. Enrollment surged to over 1,000 students.
- 2003: Leadership transitioned to Dr. Daisy Tamayo.
- Subsequent Growth: Branches established in Molino (Cavite) and Calamba (Laguna), alongside the DALTA Group of Companies, including a Medical Center in Las Piñas.
