CAPS Meeting: Fall Semester Planning & Updates

  • Sims 4 Packs and Gaming Habits

    • Purchased Expansion Packs: For Rent, Vampires, Toddler Stuff, Spa Day, Snowy Escape, Seasons, Lovestruck, Death Life and Death, Business and Hobbies, Perfect Patio, Parenthood, Nifty Knitting, My First Pet Stuff, Laundry, Island Living, High School Years, Growing Together, Get to Work, Get Famous, Eco Lifestyle, Discovery University, Cottage Living, Cats & Dogs.

    • Free Content: Blooming Room Kit (plants).

    • Bonus Content: Received from purchasing the base game on disc when it first came out.

    • Cost and Time Investment: Estimated total spending on packs is between 600 to 750. Accumulated playtime is 5306 hours.

    • Financial Philosophy: Willing to pay for packs to support the developers of The Sims games, hoping for a Sims 5 release. Packs are considered a "good investment," especially when bought on sale (first time buying on sale).

    • Custom Content: Also utilizes a lot of custom content in gameplay.

  • Personal Updates and General Well-being

    • Mikaela: Doing well.

    • Hans: Feeling better after a "post-dum plague" illness. Involved in fraternity activities. Collaborating with HRX, with weekly announcements about the partnership.

    • Wellness Center Visit: Attended an outpatient wellness center on Tuesday. Ryan (outpatient) and an inpatient psychiatrist at Trinity bought food during the visit. The psychiatrist's observation of college students being "poor" was noted as accurate, especially considering Sims pack purchases.

  • Instagram Viewport Photos for CAPs Promotion

    • Purpose: To promote CAPs on Instagram.

    • Photo Ideas: A humorous "cookie one" or a picture using the "Chad" Snapchat filter were suggested. A joking reference to searching "deep fried cat" was also made for a photo idea.

    • Content Requirements: Each post will include a picture, name, role, major, year, and a brief "about us" description. A jocular self-description was "Cornelius likes bitches."

  • Club Window Painting Event

    • Timeline: Scheduled to run from the current week through October 24. This provides a lengthy period for clubs to participate.

    • Logistics: Windows are typically available even after many clubs have finished their painting. Last semester, the team created "weird drawings" including a brain and a grad cap, with Anir assigning specific tasks.

  • Upcoming Commercial/Spotlight for CAPS

    • Concept: A "therapy session" theme to convey empathy and shared struggle.

    • Visuals/Props: A vest (similar to current attire), a fake cigar, a lounge couch, a Freud doll, and spectacles. A bald cap was considered for Jack, referencing a high school project where he dressed as Walter White for a presentation on the economics of drugs.

    • Roles: One person would lay on the couch in a therapy-like setting, another (potentially Mikaela) could serve as the "therapist."

    • Logistics: The couch from the lounge will be used. Items for the commercial should be dropped off Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week (between October 28 and November 1$) from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

  • Mental Health Awareness Week Planning

    • Yoga Event Collaboration: Discussion with Natalie (after yoga session) to schedule an event during Mental Health Awareness Week. Proposed for the Friday of that week (October 10), aligning with their usual meeting time.

    • Event Structure: The idea is to combine a presentation on the mental health benefits of yoga (covering its history, physical, mental, and spiritual advantages) with a yoga session. This would be a single, comprehensive event, unlike previous years' separate events.

    • General Body Meeting (GBM) / Workshop: Proposed to hold the next GBM during this week, with the workshop focusing on mental health-related topics like healthy habits or the biological and psychological effects of stress.

    • Scheduling Conflicts and Resolution for GBM: Initial proposal for Tuesday, October 7 at 7:00 PM was unsuitable due to various commitments (dance practice, lab office hours from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and a staff meeting at 8:00 PM). The group then considered Monday, October 6. After further schedule alignment (Jack's e-board 4:00 PM- ext{5:00} PM, dance 7:00 PM- ext{8:00} PM), the GBM was scheduled for Monday, October 6, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, estimated to be 1.5 hours long.

    • Overall Plan: Aiming for four core events for the week: the yoga event, a tabling for Robbie's Hope, the GBM, and potentially a mindfulness walk. The dates are anticipated to be October 5, 6, 9, and 10. Importance of taking photos and making a special Instagram post on October 11 (the actual Mental Health Awareness Day) was stressed.

  • Robbie's Hope Foundation Tabling Event

    • Logistics: Speaker to order materials online. The tabling event is scheduled for Thursday, October 9, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM in the Student Center.

    • Staffing: Speaker can staff from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Mikaela can staff from 12:15 PM to 2:00 PM (willing to skip an anatomy lecture) after her research methods class ends at 12:15 PM.

    • Materials to Order:

    • Bracelets: Available in quantities of 10, 50 (with stickers), and 100. Each item costs 0.10. Ambassador bands cost 5.00 due to profit sharing with the WeFocus company.

    • Handbooks: Options include Adult, Technology, and Athlete handbooks. They are available online and cost 0.10 each for ambassadors, totaling 0.70 for 10 of each type. It was suggested to get at least two of each type.

    • Handbook Content:

      • Adult Handbook: Designed to help with difficult conversations about mental health, including identifying and addressing mental health problems in others (e.g., asking "Are you suicidal?").

      • Technology Handbook: Addresses mental health concerns related to social media, technology usage, and setting boundaries.

      • Athlete Handbook: Focuses on signs of mental health issues in athletes, useful for coaches, parents, and other trusted individuals.

  • Psychology Department Freshman Welcome Event (Donuts and Coffee)

    • Purpose: To welcome new psychology freshmen to the department and highlight the field's appeal. Upperclassmen, especially lab students and CAPS representatives, are encouraged to attend and talk.

    • Schedule: Next Wednesday (October 1, based on context) from 11:00 AM to 11:50 AM.

    • Location: Adirondack Lodge.

    • Speaker's Involvement: Dr. Legault reached out. The speaker plans to attend and discuss CAPS and their time at SLPC. Mikaela also plans to attend.

    • Class Conflicts: The speaker will skip Dr. Petli's class (with approval). Mikaela has Organic Chemistry at that time; skipping Orgo was advised against, but Mikaela decided to attend the event.

    • Format: Expected to be an informal "activity fair"-style event rather than a formal presentation.

  • Potential Future Events/Ongoing Tasks

    • Humane Society Trip: Postponed until next semester due to weather and transportation logistics.

    • Kahoot Night / Mental Health Trivia: Suggested for Saturday, October 11, but this falls during break and is thus not feasible.

    • Mindfulness Walk: Considered as a potential fifth event for Mental Health Awareness Week.

    • Nora's Information: Need to gather Nora's name, pronouns, major, minor, and self-description of her role in CAPs for Instagram posts. Nora is noted as "aloof" and hard to reach.

    • Constitution Review: Briefly mentioned but deferred due to time constraints (Caitlin needed to leave at 8:00 PM).

    • Activity Fair: The group will be participating in "Round Two" of an Activity Fair, also referred to as "Accepted Students' Day."

    • "Bone Nugget" Cat: Discussion about a prominently overweight cat featured on YouTube, raising concerns about animal welfare and inappropriate portion sizes (2$$ large meals per day).

    • Meeting Dynamics: Characterized as informal, prone to sidetracks but ultimately productive. An internal joke was made about the "founding fathers" (the speakers/organizers) and their low bar for expectations.
