Instructor Questions

  • What is the Amplified for step 1 of the bottle brief?

    • GBEEF, Extra crewmembers will be briefed commensurate with their experience on safety procedures and responsibilities.

  • What is GBEEF?

    • Generator, Boom, Egress Plan, Engine Start Time, Type of Fuel

  • Where does it talk about form 46 and what does it say?

    • Ensure prepositioned flight equipment is serviceable, inventoried, and certified on the AFTO Form 46 prior to local flights, prior to departing home station for TDY or deployment, or when the aircraft configuration changes or the aircraft crew changes while TDY or deployed. (11-301V1 AFE)

  • Are you required to have your emergency comm cords working?

    • It is not in the MEL, would be nice to have during AE missions

  • Do straps have to be smooth and not have any twists?

    • It is a gray area however -9 says “Straight-line configuration of devices (straps and chains) will be used whenever possible.” May weaken the integrity of the strap.

  • What is Stabalized approach criteria?

    • +10/-5 knots from target

  • What is Threshold speed?

    • Speed over appraoch end of the runway corrected for wind

  • What is Vmgs?

    • Expected ground speed just prior to landing

  • Why is flap retraction in the turn not recommended?

    • Loss of outboard aileron control, increases initial buffet speed considerably and rapidly.

    • If necessary, limit to 15 degrees

  • What areas should be free of ice per our cold weather guide?

    • All critical areas should be free of ice or snow prior to takeoff. The horizontal stabilizer upper and lower surfaces, leading edge, fuselage juncture, elevator, control tabs, and balance panels are defined as critical areas.

  • Does the anti-ice fluid adhere to the aircraft? What happens?

    • Yes, in the climb-out phase causing increased drag during takeoff ground run, decreased lift capability at the normal lift-off attitude, increased drag during climb-out and decreased stall margin.

  • How long would I warm the engines by starting the APU or connecting external air and turing on engine anti-ice switches?

    • 0F-32F - anti-ice for 5 minutes

    • Below 0F - anti-ice for 10 minutes

  • A sudden loss of oil pressure in extreme cold weather is due to what?

    • Broke or ruptured oil line. Engine oil pressure is rpm sensitive, between IDLE and TAKEOFF settings

  • For any cold weather enfine start procedure there must be?

    • BLK45 - increasing oil pressure

    • BLK40 a positive oil pressure indication

  • Pilot go-around procedures

    • Pickle - Actuate RGA/TOGA switch

    • Power - Apply power, do not aexceed max N1

    • Boards - Speed brakes set to zero degrees

    • Flaps - Flaps to 30

    • Gear - “Gear-Up” after positive rate of climb

    • Flaps - Raise flaps to 20 or 0 depending on intentions

  • VROT - Rotation

    • Rotation from the 3 point attitude is initiated

  • VTO - Takeoff

    • Speed that must be accelerated to before leaving the ground

  • VMCG

    • Min speed to lose outboard engine and maintain directional control

  • VR - Refusal Speed

    • Max Speed to stop on available runway

  • What should you do if it is a circling approach exceeding 166 knots?

    • You are now a category E minima

  • What should you do if you are flying mulitiple instrument approach patterns in a clean configuration?

    • Maintain a minimum VRef +70KIAS until crossing the initial appraoch fix or turning base lef if recieving radar vectors.
