Classification of Salts

Salts can be classified into two groups:

1) Normal salts- salts that are formed When all of the H plus ions in an acid are replaced by metal or ammonium ions. Potassium sulfate as a normal salt, all acids can form normal salts.

2) Acid salts- As it sorts of formed when the H+ ions in an acid are only partially replaced by metals or ammonium ions. Potassium hydrogen sulfate is an acid salt; only dibasic and tri-basic acids can form acid salts.
