ES Test 1 Section One Earth Science
Test 1 Discovering Earth Science What is Science? • Science is discovering facts about the natural world and the principles that explain those facts; also, the organized systematic enterprise that gathers knowledge about the natural world and condenses that knowledge into testable laws and principles. • Science is primarily based on observations and what can be observed with our senses. • Falsifiability means that for a hypothesis to be scientifically valid, it must have the potential to be proven false if it really is. • Theory supported by a barrage of proofs and accepted as “truth” until falsified. (Gravity, Evolution, Big Bang Theory) • Steps in “doing” science:
- Observations (All 5 fish I caught have gills)
- Create a Hypothesis based on your observation (Do all fish have gills?)
- Test your Hypothesis (Try and catch all fish to see if they all have gills)
