Risk

  • Definition: The possibility of harm; potential for negative outcomes (physical, social, or reputational).

Social Risk

  • Definition: Negative social consequences from decisions or actions.

  • Examples (2): social disapproval, damage to reputation.

Emotional Risk

  • Definition: Risks to emotional and mental wellbeing; can be not physically harmful but affect mood and wellbeing.

  • Examples (2): discrimination, relationship breakdown.

Vaping and Illicit Drugs Risks

  • VAPING:

    • addiction

    • lung ext{ }damage

    • toxic ext{ }chemicals

    • burns

  • ILLICIT DRUGS:

    • risks from unsafe substances; unknown purity/contaminants

    • potential for harm and legal consequences

Party Safe (Safe Behaviours)

  • Hydration and food

  • Know your limits; look after yourself and others

  • Stay with friends and check on mates

  • Plan transport or designate a driver; avoid dangerous substances

  • Be alert for signs of overdose or illness and seek help

  • Respect others; support peers who are upset or unwell

CPR: Unconscious Adult

  • Steps:

    • 000: Call emergency (region-appropriate)

    • Lay them on their back and open the airway

    • Check for breathing

    • 30 chest compressions

    • 2 rescue breaths

    • Repeat until help arrives

BINGE DRINKING

  • Definition: To consume an excessive amount of alcohol in a short period of time

  • Risks for teens: deaths, liver disease, poor decision-making, injuries

Recovery Position

  • When to use: If a person is unconscious but breathing and there are no life-threatening conditions.

  • How:

    • Kneel beside them

    • Place the arm nearest you with the palm supporting the head

    • Bend the knee of the top leg to stabilise

    • Roll them onto their side

    • Tilt the head back slightly to keep the airway open

    • Monitor breathing until help arrives
