Unit 1: Flag Football

Key Concepts:

  • Players/Positions:

    • Quarterback (QB): Calls plays, advances the ball.

    • Center: Snaps ball to QB.

    • Receiver: Catches passes to gain yards or score.

  • Terms:

    • Interception: Defense catches QB’s pass.

    • Sack: QB’s flag pulled behind line.

    • Fumble: Dropped ball after possession.

    • Line of Scrimmage: Starting point of each play.

    • Downs: 4 tries to gain a first down.

Skills:

  • Throwing: Grip ball, step with opposite foot, follow through.

  • Catching: Thumbs/pinkies form triangle; watch ball; soft hands.

  • Scoring:

    • Touchdown: 6 pts.

    • Extra Point: 1 (5 steps) or 2 (10 steps).

    • Safety: 2 pts.

  • Flag Safety Rules: No tackling, flags outside clothing, shirts tucked in.

Unit 2: Soccer

Key Concepts:

  • How to Play: 11 players/team; score by dribbling/kicking into goal.

  • Important Areas:

    • Goal Line/End Line

    • Penalty Box: Where goalie uses hands; fouls here lead to penalty kick.

    • Touchline: Sideline.

  • Skills:

    • Dribbling: Light kicks with inside/outside of foot.

    • Trapping: Control ball using foot, thigh, chest, or head.

    • Throw-In: Both feet on ground, ball over head with both hands.

    • Free Kick/Corner/Goal Kick: Restart methods after ball goes out.

  • Strategies:

    • Offensive: Move, pass, look for open players.

    • Defensive: Stay between ball and goal, communicate.

Unit 3: Volleyball

Key Concepts:

  • Positions: 6 players; back row/front row.

  • Start/Serve: Behind end line; ball must go over net cleanly.

  • Hits:

    • Bump/Forearm Pass

    • Set

    • Spike

    • Block

  • Rules:

    • 3 hits per side.

    • Rally scoring: point every play.

    • Ball in if it lands on line.

Unit 12: Fitness Responsibility & Warm-up

Key Concepts:

  • Behavior: Show respect, emotional control, effort.

  • Warm-up: Light cardio for 5–10 mins (e.g., jogging).

  • Cool-down: Slow activity + stretching for 5–10 mins.

  • Heat Illnesses:

    • Cramps: Dehydration.

    • Exhaustion: Heavy sweating, dizziness.

    • Heat Stroke: No sweating, high temp, emergency.

  • Hydration: Drink before/during/after exercise.

Key Concepts:

  • Alcohol: Illegal for minors; slows thinking.

  • Smoking: Risks include asthma, bronchitis, heart rate increase.

  • 5 Rules:

    1. Know What’s Up: Be aware.

    2. Spot Red Flags: Recognize danger.

    3. Make a Move: Get away from danger.

    4. Talk It Up: Report to a trusted adult.

    5. No Blame, No Shame: You are not at fault.

  • Digital Citizenship: Be safe, respectful, responsible online.

  • Digital Footprint: Everything you post/do online is traceable.
