El abuelo: The grandfather

Possessive Adjectives
Show possession or relationship.
Agree in number, and 'our' agrees in gender.
To pluralize, add an '-s'.

Irregular verbs: stem-changers and yo-go verbs.
Tener: to have

Use of tener: Sometimes used where English uses 'to be', such as "to be hot" (tener calor) or "to be ___ years old" (tener __ años).
Adjective Agreement
Descriptive adjectives must agree with the person they describe.
If an adjective ends in -o, change it to -a to make it feminine.
To make it plural, add an -s.
If an adjective ends in a consonant, add -es to make it plural.
Examples:
alto (masculine singular), alta (feminine singular), altos (masculine plural), altas (feminine plural)
grande (gender-neutral singular), grandes (plural)

Irregular verb forms:

Contraction "al": Used when going to a masculine place (a + el = al). Example: Ellos van al gimnasio.
Future tense: ir + a + infinitive verb. Example: going to do in the future
Irregular ‘Yo’ verbs
Only irregular in the ‘yo’ form; other forms are regular.
Salir (to leave):
yo salgo, tú sales, él/ella/usted sale, nosotros salimos, ellos/ellas/ustedes salen
Hacer (to do/make):
yo hago, tú haces, él/ella/usted hace, nosotros hacemos, ellos/ellas/ustedes hacen
Ver (to see):
yo veo, tú ves, él/ella/usted ve, nosotros vemos, ellos/ellas/ustedes ven
Poner (to put):
yo pongo, tú pones, él/ella/usted pone, nosotros ponemos, ellos/ellas/ustedes ponen
Stem-changing verbs
Have a letter change in the stem before adding the ending.
This change applies to all subjects except 'nosotros'.
Pensar (ie): pienso, piensas, piensa, pensamos, piensan
Querer (ie): quiero, quieres, quiere, queremos, quieren
Poder (ue): puedo, puedes, puede, podemos, pueden
Decir (i): digo, dices, dice, decimos, dicen
Pedir (i): pido, pides, pide, pedimos, piden

ESTAR: Position, Location, Action, Condition, Emotion
Present Progressive
English: verb 'to be' + -ing
Spanish: estar + gerund (-ando for -AR verbs, -iendo for -ER/-IR verbs).
If there are three vowels together, the 'i' in -iendo changes to 'y'.
Stem-changing IR verbs: o changes to u, e changes to i.
Examples:
Nosotros estamos estudiando. (We are studying.)
Yo estoy durmiendo. (I am sleeping.)
