Plants
To make these ADHD-friendly, try using the "Front" of the card for the term and the "Back" for a short, punchy definition (10 words or less). You can copy these into an app like Quizlet or write them on physical index cards.
Using physical cards is often better for focus because it gets you away from a screen!
### Set 1: Classification & Taxonomy
* Front: Binomial Nomenclature
* Back: Two-part naming system: Genus (caps) + species (lowercase).
* Front: The 7 Taxa (in order)
* Back: Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species.
* Front: Dichotomous Key
* Back: Tool for identifying organisms using "either/or" choices.
* Front: Phylogeny
* Back: The evolutionary history/relationships of a species.
* Front: 3 Domains (Woese)
* Back: Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukarya.
### Set 2: Viruses & Bacteria
* Front: Pathogen
* Back: Any agent (virus/bacteria/fungi) that causes disease.
* Front: Antibiotics
* Back: Medicine that kills bacteria only; useless against viruses.
* Front: Lytic Cycle
* Back: Virus hijacks cell and bursts it immediately.
* Front: Lysogenic Cycle
* Back: Viral DNA hides in host DNA for a long time.
* Front: Bacteriophage
* Back: A "moon-lander" shaped virus that infects bacteria.
* Front: Prion vs. Viroid
* Back: Prion = infectious protein. Viroid = infectious RNA loop.
### Set 3: Protists & Fungi
* Front: Endosymbiosis
* Back: Theory that eukaryotes formed from prokaryotes living inside each other.
* Front: Cilia vs. Flagella
* Back: Cilia = many tiny hairs (Paramecium). Flagella = long tail (Euglena).
* Front: Fungi Cell Walls
* Back: Made of Chitin. (Plants use cellulose).
* Front: Mycorrhizae
* Back: Mutualism where fungi help plant roots get water.
### Set 4: Plants
* Front: Xylem
* Back: Tubes that carry water UP from roots.
* Front: Phloem
* Back: Tubes that carry sugar (food) around the plant.
* Front: Gymnosperms
* Back: "Naked seeds" usually found in cones.
* Front: Angiosperms
* Back: Flowering plants; seeds are protected by fruits.
* Front: Stomata & Guard Cells
* Back: Stomata = leaf pores. Guard cells = open/close them.
### Set 5: Monocot vs. Dicot (Quick Fire)
* Front: Monocot Leaves vs. Dicot Leaves
* Back: Monocot = Parallel veins. Dicot = Branched/Netted veins.
* Front: Monocot Flowers vs. Dicot Flowers
* Back: Monocot = Parts in 3s. Dicot = Parts in 4s or 5s.
* Front: Monocot Stems vs. Dicot Stems
* Back: Monocot = Scattered bundles. Dicot = Ring arrangement.
### ADHD Flashcard Hack:
If you have a stack of 30 cards, don't try to do them all at once.
1. The "3-Pile" System: * Pile 1: Cards you know instantly (Put these away).
* Pile 2: Cards you got right but had to think about (Review tomorrow).
* Pile 3: Cards you got wrong (Review these 5 times today).
2. Move while you study: Walk around the room or stand up while flipping the cards. It helps keep your brain engaged!
Do you want me to write a practice "Short Answer" question for one of the harder topics like Viral Replication or Endosymbiosis?
