what is whistle-blowing?

• whistleblowing is when a worker reports suspected wrongdoing at work

• officially called ‘making a disclosure in the public interest’

• a worker can report things that aren’t right/legal/neglection, eg:

  • health n safety violations

  • environmental damage

  • criminal offences

  • law disobedience eg incorrect insurance

  • covering up wrongdoing

the ethics of whistle-blowing:

• 2 senior paediatric consultants both blew the whistle on the NHS citing concerns over the deaths n injuries caused to babies in surgeries

  • high stress n subpar working conditions = mistakes in surgery
