Classical Conditioning
★ Ivan Pavlov: Behaviorist who studied digestion in dogs. Accidentally discovered classical conditioning while measuring salivation rates in his animals.
★ Unconditioned Response (UCR): A behavior that happens naturally to a presented stimulus. (Loud bang makes you jump)
★ Unconditioned Stimulus (UCS): A stimulus that naturally elicits a response (seeing food makes you hungry).
★ Conditioned Stimulus (CS): This is an object that does NOT normally cause a response (Ringing a BELL does not cause hunger naturally).
★ Conditioned Response (CR): You respond to the new stimulus in the same way you would to the natural stimulus.
★ Extinction: CR goes away if over stimulated or lack of stimulation.
★ Generalization: Same response to SIMILAR stimuli (using different bells, the dog will still salivate).
★ Spontaneous Recovery: CR comes back after it was previously extinct.
★ Discrimination: Being able to tell a specific difference between similar stimuli.
