Training

Training: systematic, repeated performance of structured exercise sessions over a period of time, with the achievement of a specific goal

Overtraining: when an athlete attempts to do more training than they can physically or mentally tolerate without adequate rest

Causes

  • Excessive training intensity

  • Inadequate nutrition

  • Lack of sleep

  • Psychological stress

Symptoms

  • Persistent fatigue

  • Decreased performance

  • Increased risk of injuries

  • Mood changes

  • Insomnia

Recovery

  • Complete rest or significantly reduce training intensity

  • Proper nutrition

  • Quality sleep

  • Stress management

Overreaching (transient over-training): pushing the body beyond its limits for a short period of time to stimulate a training response

Undertraining: not providing the body with enough stimulation for performance to improve by training. Not training often enough with too small of an intensity won't see desired changes.

Overtraining Syndrome (OTS): a more sever and chronic condition resulting in prolonged overtraining without adequate rest
