  • Definition: A central idea (or main idea) is the main message or idea expressed in a text.

    • Relationship to Author’s Purpose:

    • The central idea is always related to the author’s purpose, which is the reason why the author writes the text.

    • Identification:

    • To identify the central idea, one needs to examine the details in the text and decide what the overall story is mostly or mainly about.

Latin Root -spec-

  • Definition: The Latin root word -spec- means "look" or "see."

Parts of Speech: Adjectives

  • Definition: An adjective modifies or describes a noun or a pronoun.

    • Characteristics:

    • Adjectives can include qualities like colors, numbers, textures, shapes, heights, weights, etc.

    • How much?
