Why is Tony Stein included in this book?

To show that while he was a brave man for doing individual action of saving people. He was just as brave as all the other soldiers on Iwo Jima who were risking their lives and has just as many lives resting in their hands as Tony did. It displays that while Tony got a medal he didn't deserve it any more or less than the other men on Iwo Jima.
