Blood Types
Each blood type has a specific antigen.
A = “A” antigens
B = “B” antigens
AB = “A” and “B” antigens
O = neither
Donating blood
You can only give blood to people with similar antigens as you.
A can give A and AB but not O or B
B can give B and AB but not O or A
AB can receive from all three but only give AB
O can give to all 3 but only receive O
If the body recognizes a foreign antigen, it will attack it!
Rh factors
Small proteins on red blood cell that
determine if your blood is + or –
If you have Rh factors, you are positive, if
