The Island

The island evolves from a paradise into something threatening and foreboding. Even with the food. at the start tasty and wonderful but eventually making the boys ill

The sea is first shown as calm and inviting but progresses into something mysterious and associated with death. The bodies of Simon, Piggy and the parachutist are all washed away by the tide

The forest is the main source of food but the boys are still afraid of it and it’s dark secrets. Only Simon is at ease in there, he has a close relationship with nature.

The sun is fun and pleasant but also the cause of tempers and sunburn. Storms can be sudden and violent. The biggest is when Simon is killed. The weather mirrors the boys chaos - pathetic fallacy. The sun is described as a weapon
