Leg Bones

  • Pelvic Girdle: Male- closer together narrow hips

    • Location:  bottom of the spine, connects spine and legs.

    • Function:

      • Supports body weight and protects organs.


  • Pelvic Girdle: Female- wider, bigger opening

    • Location: bottom of the spine, which connects the spine to the legs.

    • Function: 

      • Supports body weight, protects organs, and allows for childbirth.


  • Coxal- 1.2 side of the pelvic

    • Location: on the sides of your pelvis, connecting the spine to the thigh bone (femur). (made of 3 parts (ilium, ischium, and pubis.)

    • Function:

      • Supports body weight, protects organs, and helps with leg movement.


  • Femur- Thigh bone

    • Location: upper leg, between the hip and knee.

    • Function: Supports the body’s weight and allows leg movement.


  • Patella: Knee cap 

    • Location: front of the knee joint.

    • Function: Protects the knee and helps the leg move.


  • Tibia: front big one lower leg

    • Location: larger bone in the lower leg, on the inside

    • Function: Supports most of the body’s weight.


  • Fibula: back thin one lower leg

    • Location: smaller bone in the lower leg, on the outside.

    • Function: Helps with stability but doesn’t carry much weight.


  • Tarsals: the heel of your foot walking (talus, calcaneus, navicular, medial cuneiform, intermediate cuneiform, lateral cuneiform, and cuboid)

    • Location: ankle and upper foot

    • Function: Helps the foot move and supports weight.


  • Metatarsals: not your toe bridge of your feet

    • Location: middle of the foot.

    • Function: Supports weight and helps with walking.


  • Phalanges

    • Phalanges Proximal closer to the metatarsals

    • Phalanges medial between the proximal and distal

    • Phalanges Distal: toes

      • Location: in the toes

      • Function: Help with balance and movement.
