The 1954 Geneva agreement

• Divided Vietnam at the 17th parallel.

• North Vietnam would be ruled by ho chi Minh and south Vietnam ruled by Ngo Diem (anti communist)

• French troops would withdraw from vietnam

• Vietminh withdraw from South viernam

• The people had a choice if they wanted to live in North or south

• An election would be held before July 1956

• Laos and Cambodia will become independent

Main problem: harder to unite the north and south because of the divide.
