  • Watergate scandal - led to the resignation of Richard Nixon in 1974

  • Vice President Gerald R. Ford becomes president after Nixon's resignation

  • 1976 Jimmy Carter is elected president

  • 1976 America's Bicentennial

  • Decrease of troops in Vietnam caused by being very unpopular

  • The U.S. faced high inflation like gas prices and unemployment.

  • Nixon signed the clean air act, and many pieces of anti-pollution legislation.

  • Vietnam protests and Kent State shooting

  • Kent shooting, national state guard killed 4 students during a protest against the vietnam war.

  • 26th amendment passed, allowing for lower age voting for 21 to 18.

  • The soviet invasion of afghanistan - which allowed for the U.S. to support Afghanistan soldiers against the USSR (Soviet Union).

  • The Watergate Hotel. The Watergate Hotel was the location of the infamous Watergate burglary. It’s located in Washington D.C

  • Kent State University - College in Ohio that was site of a protest and massacre

  • Saigon - mark of the end of the Vietnam War,

  • The Ho-Chi-Minh trail. The Ho-Chi-Minh trail went through Laos and Cambodia to make a pathway from North Vietnam to South Vietnam and eventually caused the US troops to feel the need to invade Laos and Cambodia.

  • Gulf of Tonkin - A spot off of the bay of North Vietnam where Viet-Cong troops
