Matter is anything that has mass

weight is mass plus the effect of gravity

matter exist in 3 possible states: solid: definite shape and volume, liquid: changeable shape; definite volume, and gas: changeable shape and volume

All elements are made up of atoms

atomic symbol is one or two letter chemical shorthand for each element

all matter is composed of one or more elements

an element is a substance that cannot be created or broken down by ordinary chemical means

elements are given chemical symbols such as: O for oxygen, C for carbon, H for hydrogen, and N for nitrogen

these 4 elements make up majority of our bodies
