The rise of the Nazi Party

  • June, 1933, 0.75 % of the 67million German population consisted of Jews,

  • Jews belonged to all classes of society and contributed to the German life

  • German Jews did not follow the cultural and religious Jewish traditions as strictly as the Eastern European Jews.

The Nazi Gain Power:

  • Nazi Party (NSDAP) gained 40% of votes and 37% of votes in second election.

  • Adolf Hitler demanded to be chancellor, In January 1933, German President Paul von Hindenburg gave Hitler the position of chancellor

  • August 1934, on Hindenburgs death, Hitler combined the President and Chancellor and turned Germany into a one party state

Nazi Belief

  • believed the idea of Aryan master race as the superior (top) group in a hierarchy of different racial groups. (Aryan = tall, blonde or brown hair, blue or light eyes)

  • Nazi expected Aryan women to commit themselves to motherhood so the race will multiply.

  • believed in the “sub humans” were at the bottom of the hierarchy (Serbs, Russians, Poles and Serbs)

  • group lower is the “unworthy of life” (criminals, homosexuals, mentally ill, Gypsies, Romani and Jews)

Eugenics

  • Nazi claimed to regain position as world power, to recreate the master race, and remove the people who saw it racially inferior

  • unsuitable for parenting to be sterilised (removing the ability to have children) to keep the good genes.

  • Eugenics meaning good genes is the goal to imrpove the human condition by having the best genes.
