in the gonads, the sperm and egg are being formed for the next generation in the germ cells (which is why we start with germ cells)
we take the germ cells out, separate them into sperm and egg and so forth and so on (this was for the explanation of lecture)
germ cells are formed first, they migrate, then develop their sex
chromosomal sex determination (by genes/ chromosomes) OR environmental (germ cells get a signal from the outside the body is housed in that causes the body to make a certain sex)
