Human Eye

1. Sclera: Outside Protection & Shape (white) 

2. Choroid: Vascular (Almost black) 

3. Retina: (wet tissue paper) 

4. Fovea: Allows for sharp central vision 

5. Note that there is a central retinal artery & vein in the center of the optic nerve.

6. Blind Spot: The eye can’t send any messages about what’s in that area to the brain

7. Cornea: (Clear in front)  

8. Anterior chamber = Aqueous Chamber:  Has fluid in chamber 

9. Vitreous Chamber & Body: 

10. Pupil: Hole- Radial muscles contract and opens pupil (seeing in dark) 

11. Iris: Colored part of eye- Radial Muscles 

12. Lens: Ciliary muscle accommodation 

13. Ciliary muscles (& zonules): Muscles can flatten and bend the lens (when you're looking close lens bend) 

14. Tapetum lucidum: eyes glow when lights hit (between coraid and retna) reflects, makes it good to see at night 

ex. when deer run into side of car: the lights blind them then without light they cant see the rest of the car 

15. Nictitans: “third eye-lid” see this in birds covering comes over eye-protective (humans don't have it) 

Loons are clear so they can see underwater
