Frog Anatomy

  • Vomerine teeth: To hold and secure prey

  • Estuachian tubes:

  • Tympanic membrane: Ear drum, to hear typically for mating

  • Nictitating membrane: 3rd eyelid, prevents dirt and protects the eyeball. Also allows frog to see underwater

  • Esophagus: Where food goes down to the stomach

  • Glottis: Shields the entry into the lungs

  • Tongue: Catches prey

  • Maxillary teeth: Secure prey


  • Liver: Produces bile to start the process of breaking down food

  • Gallbladder: Stores bile 

  • Pancreas: Secretes enzymes, helps break down food 

  • Fat bodies: Store fat, incase needed for hibernation or limited food

  • Stomach: Secretes juices for digestion

  • Small intestine:Absorbs broken down food

  • Kidney: Filters out any toxins or such out of the blood

  • Large intestine: Where undigested wastes are collected

  • Cloaca: Food wastes, sperm and eggs, and wastes from kidney and urinary bladder are here

  • Anus: Wastes leave thru anus
