Physiology is categorized by organ systems and important for understanding biochemical processes. Essential knowledge in physical and chemical principles is necessary. The principle of complementarity asserts that function relates to structure in biology.

Survival Needs: Survival relies on nutrients, oxygen, water, normal temperature, and pressure.
Homeostasis: Defined as internal stability against external changes, using control systems that include receptors, control centers, and effectors. Negative feedback mechanisms maintain homeostasis through systems like temperature regulation, while positive feedback amplifies changes during specific processes like childbirth.
