Biotic and Abiotic

Ecology the study of organisms and how they interact with the environment around them.

Ecosystem

BIOTIC ABIOTIC

Biotic living things.

Abiotic non-living things

Biotic components

>“Bio” means life

>Living organisms

>Includes all living organisms found in an ecosystem

Producer- Plants

Consumer- peoples, animals

Decomposer- Bacteria, dead body of peoples

Abiotic components

> “A” means without

>”bio” means life

>Without life

>Non-living components on the physical and chemical aspects of an ecosystem.

ex: air, water, soil, temperature, sunlight

Abiotic components have important roles in the survival of the living organism in an ecosystem.

Ecological relationship describe the interactions between and among organisms within their environment.

Symbiosis the close interaction between two or more organisms of different biological species.

TYPES OF SYMBIOSIS:

MUTUALISM

COMMENSALISM

PARASITISM

Mutualism a symbiotic relationship wherein both species benefit from each other’s interaction.

POSITVE ^_^ POSITIVE ^_^

ex: bee and flower

In this mutualistic relationship, the bees get to eat and the flowering plants get to produce.

Commensalism type of symbiotic relationship that happens when one organism benefits from the interaction and the other one if unaffected.

POSITIVE ^_^ NEUTRAL -_-

Ex: orchid and tree

PARTS/TYPES OF COMMENSALISM:

Commensal a smaller organism that gains benefit like nutrients, shelter, support, or locomotion from the host.

Host larger organism which is not affected from the commensal.

Parasitism a type of symbiotic relationship that happens when one organism benefits and the other is harmed.

POSITIVE ^_^ NEGATIVE :(

TYPES/PART OF A PARASITISM

Parasite Organism that benefits

Host organism that is harmed

Ex: mosquito sucking blood from human

Non symbiotic relationship are interactions of organisms that live apart from one another.

COMPETITION

PREDATION

Competition relationship in which two or more organisms need the same thing to survive.

INTRASPECIFIC INTERSPECIFIC

Intraspecific produced, occuring or existing within a species or between individuals of a single species

Ex: two lion fighting

Interspecific existing or occuring between different species.

Ex: Lion and Tiger fighting

These individuals plants are competing for light exposure, temperature, humidity, pollinations, soil nutrients and growing space.

Predation a predator-prey relationship

Ex: cat and rat, the cat is the predator and the rat is the prey.
