(chapter 3) important dates

  1. 1933- Germany refused to pay anymore reparations and left the LON

  2. 1934 - hitler moved to enter Poland after the murder of the Austrian chancellor Dollfuss but was stopped by Mussolini

  3. 1935 - in January the saar voted to return to Germany. by march hitler was building up the army to 500,000 and creating his airforce this was a direct challenge to the treaty of versailles. Britain and France stopped him

  4. June 1935 - Britain and Germany signed the anglo- German naval agreement. allowing Germany to have a fleet of ships 35% the size of Britains with submarines at 45%. France was angry that they were not consulted

  5. 1936- hitler reoccupied the Rhineland predicting that he wouldn’t be confronted by Britain and France. he was completely right about it this was impressive to the German people as this was also a violation of the treaty of versailles. it created great faith in hitler among the army officers

  6. 1938- Germany re-united with Austria ( the Anschluss) and hitler promised not to go any further in Europe to Britain and France which they accepted
