Cell theory
1) cells are the most basic units of life where all chemical reactions occur
2) All cell come from pre existing cells
3) All organism are made of one or more cells
Phospholipid - hydrophilic, polar head (attracts water) and a hydrophobic non polar tail (repels water)
Phospholipid bilayer - made of two rows of phospholipids to create semi permeable, lets some substance through but not others
Fluid mosaic model - fluid , the ability of proteins and lipids to moves sideways giving its structure, mosaics the variety of proteins and molecules within the phospholipid bilayer
Two types of proteins - integral (permanent) peripheral (temporary)
Cholesterol - between phoslipids and helps with the fluidity of the structure
glycolipid - lipid with carbohydrate chain attached
glycoprotien - protein with carbohydrate chain attached
receptors - aid in cell communication and recognition of e.g hormones and antigens
channel and carrier - help move substances across the membrane by either active or passive transport
protein on the underside - held by the cytoskeleton
cytoskeleton - framework of microfilaments that hold the cells shape, move organelles around and aid in cell division
