5.2: American Revolution

The colonists were revolting against Great britain, which the extremists are the sons of liberty


political problems included: lack of representation in parliament (in english)

social class conflict: patriots vs loyalist, elite class wants more power

economic crisis: taxation on many of the goods that the colonists were using/buying (sugar, stamps + tea acts)

time of development: 1776-1789


publications: declaration of independence, common sense (thomas pain), articles of confederation, constitution

slogans: “NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION”


people to know: thomas jefferson, adams, paul revere 


symbolic action (event): boston massacre- crispus attacks, boston tea party

significant crisis: intolerable acts (quartering act= had to house british soldiers)

spread of ideologies: democracy, branches of gov’t, separation of powers, freedom of speech > bill of rights


it resulted in a new democracy (republic), political authority remained with elites, and 

inspires revolutions in the new world + france, the revolution was successful.
