Leaders’ Aims

Clemenceau aims = Germany lose military power, reparations from Germany, wants land back (Alsace Lorraine etc), no troops in the Rhineland

Wilson aims = idealistic, League of Nations, national groups should rule themselves, don’t punish Germany too harshly

Lloyd George aims = wants someone to blame for war, doesn’t want to be too harsh, doesn’t want Germany to be too powerful, wants to rebuild Germany’s economy for trade

What they decided

G = guilt, Germany had to accept guilt for starting the war

A = armed forces, limited to 100k soldiers, 36 battleships, no conscription, no tanks/aircraft/ submarines

R = reparations, £6.6 billion

G = German territory, Germany to give up Alsace Lorraine, colonies to go to League of Nations, Rhineland demilitarised, Saarland run by League for 15 years

LE = League of Nations created
