NCLEX CORNER MANAGEMENT OF CARE

  • Maintain Client Confidentiality and Privacy

    • Importance of protecting sensitive patient information to ensure trust in the care process.
    • Adhere to HIPAA regulations to safeguard personal health information.
  • Provide and Receive Hand Off of Care (Report) on Assigned Clients

    • Structured process involving the transfer of patient information to promote continuity of care.
    • Key components include patient identity, clinical data, treatment plans, and pending assessments.
  • Recognize and Report Ethical Dilemmas

    • Understanding when a situation presents a conflict between ethical principles such as autonomy, beneficence, and justice.

    • Adhere to standards that promote balanced concerns for patients, healthcare providers, and community well-being.

NCLEX CORNER HEALTH PROMOTION

  • Provide Resources to Minimize Communication Barriers

    • Utilize language interpreters and educational materials tailored to patients’ levels of understanding.
    • Address sensory impairments by providing materials in appropriate formats (e.g., large print, Braille).
  • Educate Client about Prevention and Treatment of High-Risk Health Behaviors

    • Focused discussions on the risks associated with behaviors such as smoking, poor diet, and lack of physical activity.
    • Offer realistic strategies for modification and assistance in behavior changes.
  • Assess Client’s Readiness to Learn, Learning Preferences, and Barriers to Learning

    • Identify obstacles such as language differences, cognitive deficits, or complex medical jargon that may impede understanding.
  • Assess and Educate Clients about Health Risks Based on Family, Population, and Community

    • Consider genetic, socio-economic, and local health statistics when discussing health risks.
  • Educate Client about Preventative Care and Health Maintenance Recommendations

    • Explore guidelines for screenings, vaccinations, and lifestyle changes to promote long-term health.

PIAGET'S COGNITIVE THEORY

How Would You Define Cognitive?

  • Cognitive refers to the mental processes involved in gaining knowledge and comprehension, encompassing aspects such as thinking, knowing, memory, judgment, and problem-solving.

WHAT ARE PIAGET'S STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT

  1. Sensorimotor Stage

    • Age Range: Birth to 2 years
    • Key Characteristics: Exploration of the world through senses and actions; object permanence is developed.
  2. Preoperational Stage

    • Age Range: 2 to 7 years
    • Key Characteristics: Symbolic thought, egocentrism, and animism; learning through play and imagination;
  3. Concrete Operational Stage

    • Age Range: 7 to 11 years
    • Key Characteristics: Logical reasoning about concrete events; understanding the concept of conservation (quantity remains the same despite changes in shape).
  4. Formal Operational Stage

    • Age Range: 12 years and up
    • Key Characteristics: Abstract reasoning, hypothetical thinking, and systematic planning; ability to understand abstract concepts and engage in deductive logic.

GROUP ACTIVITY

  • Break Students into 4 Small Groups
    • Each group is assigned one of Piaget’s stages:
    • Group 1: Sensorimotor Stage
    • Group 2: Preoperational Stage
    • Group 3: Concrete Operational Stage
    • Group 4: Formal Operational Stage

USING MANAGEMENT OF CARE

How Would You Provide Confidentiality and Privacy?

  • Best Practices
    • Ensure secure handling and sharing of patient information.
    • Use passwords for digital records and limit access to authorized personnel only.

MANAGEMENT OF CARE

  • Practice Consistently with the Nurses' Code of Ethics

    • Uphold ethical standards and maintain patient dignity at all times.
  • Recognize and Report Ethical Dilemmas

    • Engage in ethical discussions with colleagues and seek guidance when facing moral uncertainties in patient care.

HEALTH PROMOTION

  • Educate Client about Prevention and Treatment of High-Risk Health Behaviors

    • Aim to reduce the incidence of health conditions arising from lifestyle choices.
  • Assess and Educate Clients about Health Risks Based on Family, Population, and Community

    • Use this information to tailor recommendations and interventions specific to the client’s context.
