Math Vocabulary Terms #2
Q2 Vocabulary List - Summative Test 10/30/24
1. Parallel Lines - Line that are a constant distance apart, never intersecting
2. Slope intercept form - An equation of the form y = mx + b , where m is the slope
and b is the y ‐intercept.
3. Slope - The ratio of change in the vertical axis (y‐axis) to change in the
horizontal axis (x‐axis).
4. Proportional Relationships -If one of the related things is multiplied in size by a
number, which we'll call x, then the other related thing is also multiplied by x.
5. Ratio - A comparison of two numbers, often written as a fraction
6. Rate of Change - The ratio of the change in the output value and change in the
input value of a function
7. Y - Intercept - The value of y at the point where a line or graph intersects the
y‐axis. The value of x is zero (0) at this point.
8. Linear Equation - An equation that makes a straight line when it is graphed.
9. Real World Problem - A problem that is an application of a real‐life situation
involving mathematics.
10.Point of Intersection - The point at which two lines intersect, or cross
11. System of Equations - Two or more equations containing common variable(s)
12.Linear Function - A function that can be graphically represented on the
coordinate plane by a straight line.
13. Increasing (Positive) - A slope that travels upward from left to right
14. Decreasing (Negative) - A slope that travels downward from left to right
15. Function - A special relationship between values: Each input values gives back
exactly one output value
16.Substitution - To replace the variables in an equation with numbers.
17. Run - The horizontal change between two points on the graph of a line.
18. Rise - The vertical change between two points on the graph of a line.
19. Non-Linear - A function whose graph does not form a straight line.
